Innovation Capability Assessment Programme (iCAP)

Research and innovation offer the potential for significant value creation. However, commercialising technology/innovation – in an accessible and sustainable manner – sometimes requires a shift in mindset and culture from that associated with traditional technical or research environments... yet achieving this is usually essential if innovation-based organisations are to thrive.

Crocodilio, together with our partner Concept Shape, has therefore developed a proprietary Innovation Capability Assessment Programme (iCAP) framework designed to assess, and build on, clients’ capability to innovate and successfully commercialise the output of their endeavours.

In our experience, the ability to deliver technology-based products and services in a commercially viable manner is typically determined by a combination of organisational structure, culture, process, and resource availability – yet other programmes may result in reviews that, which interesting, fail to provide a clear path to success... failing to consider broader market implications and/or cultural issues that can constrain growth or change.

iCAP therefore combines introspective reviews of client organisations with broad spectrum assessment of market need/conditions in order to highlight some of the barriers that may be inhibiting the success of current operating models. By adopting this holistic approach, that considers all stages of the innovation cycle, we support commercial development and value creation rather than viewing corporate activities and the nature of innovative services as unrelated.

iCAP groups activities into three key stages: Assess, Align and Accelerate. Importantly, the iCAP process recognises that any change or development programme will involve a clear understanding of each client’s current situation, constraints and goals – whilst seeking to balance the client organisation’s own circumstances with the needs/wants of its target market.

iCAP process

The output of the iCAP process is a highly practical Innovation Action Plan (IAP) that clearly outlines potential barriers to achieving each client’s vision and, as appropriate, outlines methods by which roadblocks may be removed and culture or process change effected.

Where required, we are able to offer further support in the form of operational personnel, structures/processes, or ongoing mentoring at various levels within the organisation.
